Laphroaig' distilerry founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston, at the storm-lashed Island of Islay on the west coast of Scotland. For nearly 200 years a small team of dedicated islanders have worked with passion to create what is considered to be the most distinctive single malt in the world. Over time the faces may have changed but the ancient skills and dedication to quality remained stable.
Laphroaig in Scotish Gaelic means “beautiful hollow by the broad bay”, something absolutely realistic, since the distillery has, from its earliest days, been served by a steady source of water from the granite basin in the Kilbride Hills. The stream water running through the ahrd rock remains free from unwanted mineral traces, remaining soft and peaty-perfect for making whisky!
LAPHROAIG 10 YEAR OLD
With a brilliantly successful global fan Club, Laphroaig 10Y, is one of the biggest single malts produced on Islay. In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. This smoke from this peat, found only in Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour. It is considered to be the epitome of balance among smoke, iodine, peat and barrel.
Those enjoying the 10 Year Old will first notice the bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness. This full-bodied variant is the foundation of all Laphroaig expressions and comes with a long finish.
The ideal is to enjoy it neat with a few drops of water. Leave the spicy and earthy aromas along with barley flavour to surprisingly enrich your palate
Its flavour is unique as the island itself.
