In 1949, Takis Christodoulou, a pioneering young chemist with a specialized knowledge in fruit processing, founded KEA, the Cyprus Soft Drinks Company, the latter-day KEAN. His aim was the utilization of the aromatic herbs, and citrus fruits' ripe varieties of the Cypriot countryside. Focused on constant studying and understanding of how the fruit should be handled during the growth, he perfected the juice extraction process. Setting the rules for preserving naturally and storing the juice when concentrated, he created the "secret" of KEAN soft drinks with the authentic taste and all the natural characteristics of texture, aroma, colour, vitamins and minerals of the fresh fruit.
ΚΕΑΝ products were soon in great demand and the pressure for increasing production was strong. Until the end of 1956, the factory was completed, spread to over 40 acre, in Limassol.
During the struggling period after Turkish invasion in 1974, when most of the fruit plantations, equipment, fleet and accounts were lost, the company managed to survive and recover in full strength.
In 1981, ΚΕΑΝ took the strategic decision to switch to innovative products and packaging and invested in modern machinery for packing juice in Tetra Pak cartons. The combination of the expertise in processing the best natural raw materials together with the best final product quality and the latest packaging technology, established KEAN brand as a leader in juices and fruit drinks.
Today KEAN, has a strong position in more than 40 countries, while it actively continues to motivate and educate us towards a "greener" style of life, preserving the passion for tastiness and quality that consists an integral part of the Cypriot culture.
