A little bit of history…
The story of COCKSPUR RUM started 135 years ago, in 1884, when the Danish sailor, Valdemar Hanschell, decided to leave ocean travel and settle to Barbados. He opened a coaling station for ships coming through Panama canal and at the same time he was supplying them with rope, sails, salt, fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, water and...rum. He called his rum, COCKSPUR. This was the name of the street in London, where the institution that believed and financed his vision, was sited.
Under Barbadian law, distillers and bottlers had to source liquid across the island. Since 1973, Cockspur rum has been made exclusively at the WEST INDIES RUM distillery, where the island's first column still was installed. Two traditional stills, whose distillations are used in COCKSPUR RUM blend, are operating until today.
Through all these years, COCKSPUR RUM, remained loyal to the traditional process that makes Rum unique, by using the best quality island cane molasses, the purest coral stone filtered water and the finest crafted oak barrels.
The philosophy remains the same...
COCKSPUR rum is fun, the authentic spirit of the Caribbean.
The heart of COCKSPUR bits along with the real life of the island. Is has nothing to do with perfect, glossy, white sand beaches that are so often shown.
Instead, COCKSPUR is colourful art, dancers, dishes and sounds of a vibrant, joyful and at the same time relaxing culture. It's that friend that you know for years, that no matter how long it's been since you last seen each other, you fall back into easy conversation, like you last spoke yesterday. It's your weekend crew that you drink together, laugh together and you finish each other sentences. It's your fun-loving, carefree friend who is always ready fo a good time.
A COCKSPUR's edginess!
